Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13

You have been gracious to your land, O Lord, you have restored the good fortune of Jacob.

You have forgiven the iniquity of your people and blotted out all their sins.

I will listen to what the Lord God is saying, for he is speaking peace to his faithful people and to those who turn their hearts to him.

Truly, his salvation is very near to those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.

Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

Truth shall spring up from the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

The Lord will indeed grant prosperity, and our land will yield its increase.

Righteousness shall go before him, and peace shall be a pathway for his feet.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Church News

Food Bank Christmas Hampers This year St. John’s has been asked to       provide 400 pounds of carrots for the 150 Christmas Hampers that               will be distributed via the Wolfville and area food bank. We have    arranged to get these directly from a wholesaler who has very        generously offered to cover most of the cost. Donations towards            St. John’s contribution to the Christmas hampers beyond what is         needed for the carrots will go towards the cost of the turkeys         (about $25 each). The Gravy Boat is anchored at the back of the            church ready to be loaded up with your loonies, toonies & fivers.

        * If you wish to make a larger gift (over $10) towards the cost of          the turkeys and get a tax receipt, put your gift in an envelope marked Christmas Hampers – Turkeys and make the cheque         payable to the Wolfville Area Interchurch Council. We will     forward these cheques to WAICC who will issue tax receipts.

Carolling at Tideways: We've been invited to sing Christmas carols at     Tideways on Sat., Dec. 17th, from 10am (until about 11am),              during their Christmas coffee party. There's a sign-up sheet at the      back of the church - please join us!
Christmas Gifts for Shut-ins: The tradition continues! Elizabeth Biggs     has created lovely hand-made cross bookmarks that we will be           giving to people who are shut in - people who are or have been         connected with the parish or other Anglicans living in the area or               in care facilities. If you know of someone who should be included on our gift list, please let Sandra know. And a very special thanks      to Elizabeth on behalf of us all!

Anglican Church Women Annual Project 2011/2012:  Girl Power              Wolf SpiritThis is a program for youth, ages 8-15, to develop      leadership and community organizational skills, promote            empowerment and enhanced self-esteem, and encourage lasting   healthy practices, physically and psychologically. GPWS will be           delivered to 10 communities that represent 40 First Nations   communities in a geographic area that encompasses a number of Anglican Dioceses in central Canada. If you wish to support this           very worthwhile project please enclose your cheque in an    envelope marked St. John’s Anglican Church Women, NS Board,   for Project 2011/2012.

Wanted: old-worn, clean flannel sheets - I cut them up and use   instead of batting for charity quilts. See Elizabeth Biggs.

The ACW will again try to fill Christmas Shoe Box Gifts for        Seafarers. Nearly 2000 seafarers visit the Mission to Seafarers               at          the Port of Halifax over the year and these gifts are much   appreciated. Gifts include gloves/mitts, scarf, socks, men's              personal care items, soap, deodorant, shampoo, shaving cream,             toothbrush and toothpaste, hard candy and small mementos        such as key rings, mugs, playing cards, pens & stationary. A            Christmas card with personal/parish greetings can be           enclosed.

Daily Planners: we have daily planners left for sale at $17 each. They       are at the back of the church.

FOR SALE:  Hasty notes with a picture of the church on the front              cover (pkg. of 4 - $5) can be found at the back of the church.

Food Bank Request: Many of us have gifts tucked away in drawers            and cupboards which we will never use but don't have the heart          to throw away. Gifts for men or women, adults or children would             be          appreciated but we would like only new or unopened items.            We would also welcome any previously used gift bags that you             might be able to spare. If possible, we would like to receive the         items before Dec. 10th.

Rector’s schedule: Sandra will be at TAN coffee for office hours on           Weds., 2:30-5pm and on Thurs., 9-11am. She will be leading a pre-     ordination quiet day on Tuesday and will be off on Friday.

"The Wolfville Nursing Homes Ltd, Residents, Staff and              Management wish you all a peace filled and joyous          Christmas Season.  Thank you for your support in the        community care of those who reside both at the nursing home   and the Elms."

Parish Council Highlights –November 20, 2011

·       A Congregational Meeting was held November 6th after the 10:00 a.m. service.  34 people were present.  The members voted 31:1 in favour of authorizing the Parish Council to negotiate the sale of the Parish Hall subject to final congregational approval. Note: The two people who did  not vote were the Rector and the Rev’d Matthew Sponagle.

·       A letter was faxed Nov. 15 to Bishop Sue with regards to the proposed sale of the Parish Hall. It was written by the Wardens and included the reasons for our request and the method of communication with parishioners and Parish Council throughout the process. The Bishop needs to be aware of our intent should we make a formal request to her to proceed with a sale of the hall.

·       In his Treasurer’s Report, Bob Wrye noted our projected year end could be approx. $ –20,000.

·       In addition to the Rector’s Highlights Sandra mentioned several events in the past month that involved many church members participating in various activities – namely: Plum Pudding making, the Men’s Turkey Supper, and an activity for the children and youth at The Clayground.  It was encouraging to see so many happily engaged in fellowship and good work.

·       The upcoming Parish Visioning will be an opportunity for the congregation to come together and get to know one another from 8:00 & 10:00 services. It will be for the morning of Nov. 27th.

·       Mould issues in the church and Parish Hall - Grant Peart presented the report from Maritime Testing.  The inspection was done in the dark with flashlights. Mr. Kim Strong made several recommendations:

§  More fans need to be installed in the church

§  Fans should be kept on all the days of the year

§  Dehumidifiers are needed

§  Keep the heat up

§  Leave the Kneelers up

·       A Motion was made that the Property Committee determine a solution to the mould problem in the church and bring back the findings to the December meeting.

·       A sign-up list will be posted for those wishing to volunteer as sidespeople and helpers for the Christmas services.

·       Outreach: The Pastoral Care Committee would like to review the needs of the community and decide what outreach projects to support rather than do things because we always have done them past

(i.e. this year we are not contributing to the stockings for Waterville youth because it was determined that there are enough items already being collected).
