Postlude
Psalm 99
The Lord is king; let the people tremble; he is
enthroned upon the Cherubim; let the earth shake.
The Lord is great in Zion; he is high above all
peoples.
Let them confess his name, which is great and
awesome; he is the Holy One.
“O mighty King, lover of justice, you have
established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in
Jacob.”
Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and fall
down before his footstool; he is the Holy One.
Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among
those who call upon his name, they called upon the Lord, and he answered
them.
He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; they
kept his testimonies and the decree that he gave them.
“O Lord our God, you answered them indeed; you were
a God who forgave them, yet punished them for their evil deeds.”
Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and
worship him upon his holy hill; for the Lord our God is the Holy
One.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever
shall be, world without end. Amen.

Parish Council Highlights –May 1,
2011
· There was a round table discussion
regarding our final parish response before Synod to the Bishops’ request
for a response to same-sex couples. Members who wished, expressed their
individual thoughts and a Motion was made that the response we’ve
drafted accurately reflects our position to take to Synod.
· The scope of duties has been changed to
remove Parish Hall management from the sexton and transfer that to the
Parish Administrative Assistant.
· The Parish Hall Review Committee has
been very busy in 3 meetings. 11 options were proposed but only 2 were
decided to be highlighted and explored further – keep, or sell, the
hall. This will be reviewed later in the fall. The Property Committee
Chair will be preparing a list of capital investment requirements to
update the facility in the form of a timeline.
· Committee Budget planning is necessary
and must be adhered to. The Treasurer asked us to please look ahead
as we need better planning of requests for the next budget.
· Confirmation is May 22nd at 3:00 here at St. John’s. There will be
only 2 services that day – 8:00 and 3:00.
Parish Council Highlights –June 12,
2011
· Sept 25th will be “Back to Church” Sunday. We would
like to have it coincide with Acadia Homecoming Weekend in October.
· A letter will be posted at the back of
the church from a minister in Japan explaining they are not happy with
Japan’s response to nuclear reactors. Two churches were devastated.
· AST is looking for special
donations.
This is of particular interest because of our recent time here
with student Mel Malton.
· 4 or 5 new choir gowns will be ordered
later this year and the same for next year.
· The Wardens and Rector will be asking
people to fill two positions vacant on Parish Council with the
resignation of Eleanore Howard and Elaine Slauenwhite.
· Parish History - Ralph Winter’s writing
of our parish history from 1968 is complete however the editorial
sub-committee noted further editing was needed as some facts and
opinions were deemed unnecessary. Without further editing, our parish council
could not publish this parish history update. Ralph indicated that he
would be publishing this document himself. The consensus of parish
council is that it would like to postpone the official updated parish
history for now.
· Mr. Peter Brown is our new Church Sexton
effective June 13, 2011.
· Our Property Committee is continuing to
meet with St. Andrew’s Church discussing their ideal multi-use
facility.
Cost: $3 million. We are communicating we do not wish to
participate in this facility.
· New Life Ministries (a Pentecostal
church) has requested to rent our hall for Sunday mornings and Tuesday
evenings. The Wardens and Rector will communicate with them and Debbie
MacDonald.
· Restoration work will begin right away
on the church west and north exterior walls. Parish Council
approved the funds be temporarily used from our Trust Funds and the
Finance Committee will be planning how to recoup these expenses.
· Looking ahead to 2018 and our 200th Anniversary – Parish Visioning will be
taking place.
· We are on track with the budget and in a
projected deficit position this month.
· Planning is underway for Canon Russell
Elliott’s Ordination celebration event on July 24th at 4:00. That will be the
only service that day.
A Motion was made to authorize work
beginning to establish a Russell Elliott Bursary Fund, in thanksgiving
and celebration of Canon Elliott's 70th anniversary of ordination to the
priesthood.
