Community News
Contributions Welcome for the Gravy Boat!  - WAICC/ Wolfville Area Food Bank Christmas Hampers
*  Each church in our community has been asked to contribute one item to go into the 120 Christmas hampers being distributed to those in need by the Wolfville Area Food Bank.  St. John's has been asked for 240 tins of gravy!  To get the best possible price, we have already purchased the gravy by the case, but to help with the cost we hope parishioners will throw a loonie or two into the orange "gravy boat" at the back of the church.  (Many thanks to Don and Shirley Marston for this charming visual aid.)
*  As always, donations of food items such as soup, powdered milk, juice, cans of tuna, salmon, ham, turkey, tomatoes and other vegetables and fruits, pasta and pasta sauces, oatmeal, peanut butter, personal hygiene products and household cleaning items are most welcome.

Wolfville Area Food Bank: In order to pick up food phone 542-0040.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: Jan. 18 – 25.  The theme for 2008 is Pray Without Ceasing (I Thess. 5:17).   The Wolfville Area Inter-church Council invites you to join with members from the various churches in our community to explore this year’s theme at the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity service hosted this year by Greenwich United Church on Sunday, January 20 at 7:30 PM. The guest speaker is Presbyterian pastor, the Rev. Dr. Nancy Cocks, professor of pastoral theology at the Atlantic School of Theology.   During the following week, the University Chaplain, the Rev. Tim McFarland, invites all to a short daily service at the Manning Memorial Chapel (Mon. Jan. 21 to Fri. Jan. 25 from 11:30 AM - 11:50 AM) to further reflect upon and pray for Christian unity.

Rise Up, O Saints of God!
From Vain Ambitions Turn; Christ Rose Triumphant
that your hearts
with nobler zeal
might burn!

Commit your hearts to seek
the paths which Christ
has trod,
and, quickened
by the Spirit's Power,
rise up, O saints of God!
